Celtics open two-game road trip 11.18.2006

Boston ended a three-game losing streak with a victory over Indiana on Wednesday, then made it two straight wins with Friday’s triumph over Portland. Head coach Doc Rivers will now take the Boston show on the road to New York and Charlotte.
It’s up to the usual suspects for the Celtics this season with leading scorer Paul Pierce doing what he does best. Pierce is averaging 26.7 points per game and poured in a game-high 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting in a 118-90 win over the Trail Blazers.
Pierce will try to light it up Saturday night against the New York Knicks from historic Madison Square Garden. Boston has not won three straight games since a four-game winning streak from April 12-17, 2005.
The Celtics have a good chance of reaching three straight wins, as they won three of four games against the Knicks last season and seven of the last nine meetings overall.
Boston has also won two in a row and four of its last five trips to MSG.
In injury news, Boston backup center Michael Olowokandi is expected to miss two to four weeks because of a small tear in an abdominal muscle. An MRI on THursday revealed the magnitude of the injury.
