Spurs expect to get Duncan back tonight

03.9.2004

Memphis, TN (Basketball News) - Midwest Division rivals meet tonight, as the San Antonio Spurs visit the surprising Memphis Grizzlies at The Pyramid.

This is the fourth and final meeting of the season between the two teams. Memphis has won two of the three contests, splitting a pair of contests at the SBC Center and winning on its homecourt on November 3.

San Antonio should get a big boost, as Tim Duncan is expected to start tonight after missing the past five games with a leg injury. The Spurs were 4-1 without their All-Star forward.

The Spurs come into tonight’s game on a three game-winning streak. San Antonio is just two games behind Midwest Division-leading Minnesota.

On Saturday, Rasho Nesterovic had 22 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Spurs to a 107-86 rout of the Phoenix Suns at America West Arena. Malik Rose added 19 points and Tony Parker chipped in 17 for the Spurs. Hedo Turkoglu contributed 13 points and six rebounds in the San Antonio win.

Nesterovic has registered double digits in scoring and rebounding in his last five games. He has averaged 17 points and 12.4 rebounds in that span.

San Antonio is 7-1 in Tuesday games this season. The Spurs, who have won eight of their last 10 as the host, are 20-13 on the road.

The Grizzlies are on a five-game winning streak and are in sixth place in the Western Conference. Memphis is three games behind third-place San Antonio, two games away from the fourth-place Los Angeles Lakers and just one game behind the Dallas Mavericks.

On Sunday, Bonzi Wells finished with 18 points to lead Memphis to a 95-85 win over the Golden State Warriors at the Arena in Oakland. Jason Williams scored 17 points in the victory for the Grizzlies, who notched their fourth straight win on the road. Shane Battier contributed 15 points and Pau Gasol posted 14 points and eight rebounds.

Memphis, which has won seven of its last eight as the host, is an impressive 23-8 at home this season.

The Grizzlies have won three of their last five against the Spurs. The Grizzlies have won two of their last three at San Antonio.
