Recap and Highlights for November 28

  By Christopher Sells
11.29.2008 - Updated on 11.29.2008

Hawks 88, Raptors 93

Chris Bosh was late because he was stuck in an elevator and Jermaine O’Neal didn’t suit up, but the Hawks couldn’t take advantage and fell to Toronto. Bosh did everything for the Raptors— as usual— and had 30 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks. Mike Bibby scored 24 for the Hawks and Joe Johnson had 18 points and seven assists. Since starting the season 5-0, the Hawks have a disappointing 4-6 record.

76ers 78, Celtics 102

Ray Allen had 23 points— including 11 straight at one point— and the Celtics had 30 assists on the night, including 12 from Rajon Rando as Boston breezed to the win against Philadelphia. In a game that was 46-28 at the half and 73-47 after three quarters, the outcome was never really in doubt as the Celts picked up their seventh straight win. Elton Brand led the Sixers with 18 and 10, but was unable to save a team that shot under 42% and could stand to have Andre Iguodala show up once in a while.

Warriors 97, Cavaliers 112

The Cavs have been winning (12 of 13) and they’ve been doing it convincingly of late. Friday was no exception, as the game was 94-68 going into the third and coach Mike Brown was able to again rest many of his key players. LeBron James continued his MVP-type season with 23 points, seven rebounds and eight assists and Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 21 points in 19 minutes. C.J. Watson was Golden State’s high scorer with 17 points. The Warriors shot only 40% for the game.

Bucks 97, Pistons 107

Allen Iverson missed practice yesterday and was punished by being forced to come off the bench. It made no difference, as he still led the Pistons in scoring with 17 points and seven assists. It wasn’t just him though; the Pistons bench scored 63 points. The Bucks received 21 points each from Richard Jefferson and Ramon Sessions. They played without Michael Redd and Andrew Bogut, who are out because of injuries.

Bobcats 115, Pacers 108

It took overtime to do it, but the Bobcats were able to pull away from the Pacers for just their second win in seven games. The Cats got a career-high 31 points from Raymond Felton to go with seven assists and a 20-rebound night from Emeka Okafor. Danny Granger put in 35 for the Pacers and T.J. Ford and Marquis Daniels each had 20 points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Timberwolves 105, Thunder 103
Someone had to win. And despite fighting back from nine points down in fourth, the someone who won was not the Thunder. Mike Miller hit the winning basket for the Wolves with .1 showing on the clock to hand the Thunder their 14th straight loss. Kevin Durant and Jeff Green both scored 22 points for OKC and Chris Wilcox added 21 off the bench. Craig Smith came off the bench to score 23 and grab eight boards for Minnesota. Al Jefferson had 19 and nine.

Heat 107, Suns 92

Steve Nash sitting out Friday night’s game made it more unlikely that the Suns would get the W. Dwyane Wade running wild probably didn’t help either. The guard scored 43 points and dished out six assists and continued his "I’m back" campaign in convincing fashion. As for the Suns, they committed 19 turnovers without Nash in the lineup. Leandro Barbosa led them with 20 points and five assists.

Grizzlies 98, Spurs 109

The Spurs now have Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili back from injury. It’s only a matter of time until they work their way back to where they need to be and the Spurs start to look like they usually do. For now, they come off the bench, where they helped establish a very lopsided 64-4 advantage in bench points. Six Spurs scored in double figures, led by Roger Mason’s 20. O.J. Mayo scored 32 and Rudy Gay 26, as the two combined for nearly 60% of the Grizzlies’ points. Memphis has lost five straight and nine of 10.

Kings 94, Jazz 120

If this game had no third quarter, the Kings would have won by one. Instead, the Jazz used a 44-17 advantage in that quarter to blow open what had been a tied game. Eight Jazz players scored in double figures, lead by Mehmet Okur’s 20 points and 12 rebounds. Deron Williams would hand out 15 assists. John Salmons led Sacramento with 20 points. The Kings have now lost five straight.

Hornets 86, Blazers 101
Portland hasn’t lost at home this season and a 17-0 run in the second half made sure that would not change last night. Brandon Roy had 25 points and 10 assists for the Blazers, LaMarcus Aldridge had 17. Peja Stojakovic’s 21 led the Hornets, whose four game winning streak was ended.

Mavericks 107, Lakers 114
Runs of 17-0 in the second half are apparently contagious. The Lakers used one of their own to take control of their game against the Mavs to win their sixth straight. Kobe Bryant scored 35 points and Derek Fisher 19. The Lakers had 17 offensive rebounds to the Mavs’ 8. Jason Terry scored 29 off the bench and Jason Kidd had 12 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds. Dirk Nowitzki scored 19 and grabbed 12 boards but again disappeared in the fourth quarter, scoring only two points. The Mavs’ five game winning strteak came to an end.
