NCAA Game Summary - Arizona at UCLA

01.17.2004

Los Angeles, CA (Basketball News) - Channing Frye scored a game-high 26 points to lead seventh-ranked Arizona over UCLA, 97-72, in Pac-10 play at Pauley Pavilion.

Salim Stoudamire added seven three-pointers en route to a 25-point night for the Wildcats (11-3, 3-2 Pac-10), who halted a two-game skid.

With the win, Wildcats coach Lute Olsen became the team’s all-time winningest coach. Olson passed legendary Fred A. Enke on the list with his 510th victory at Arizona.

Dijon Thompson netted 19 points for the Bruins (9-4, 5-1), who fell for the first time in six games.

The Wildcats never trailed in this game after starting the game on a 10-2 run. The first half lead grew to as many as 16, but the Bruins closed out the first half with five unanswered points and only trailed 48-37 heading into the intermission.

UCLA then trimmed the deficit to seven by posting nine of the first 14 points out of the locker room.

However, the Wildcats responded with a 10-0 burst and they cruised to the victory.

Arizona made a season-high 14 treys, making 61 percent of its shots from beyond the arc.

In his 21st season in Tucson, Olson has amassed a 510-149 record, while Enke posted a 509-324 (.611) mark in 36 seasons (1925-61)...This was the 67th all- time meeting between these two teams. UCLA still holds the lead, but Arizona has made things closer with wins in eight of the last 11 meetings overall...Over the last 11 years, Arizona is 12-12 on the Southern California road swing with seven of those losses coming against the Bruins...The 26 points tied a career-high for Frye.
