Richmond, VA (Basketball News) - John Goldsberry poured in a game-high 20 points while leading the seventh-seeded UNC-Wilmington Seahawks to a 66-53 victory over the second-seeded Drexel Dragons in the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament.
Taylor Lay added 18 points in the victory for UNC-Wilmington (15-14), which has a three-game winning streak.
Sean Brooks netted 19 points and collected a game-high 10 rebounds for Drexel (18-10), while Tim Whitworth chipped in 16 points in the losing effort.
The Seahawks shot a lackluster 41.7 percent from the field in the opening frame, but they held Drexel to 34.6 percent shooting to take a 29-23 advantage into the break.
UNC-Wilmington used a 15-6 spurt late in the second stanza en route to the 13- point victory.
The Seahawks controlled the glass, outrebounding the Dragons 39-27 on the night. UNC-Wilmington also netted 16-of-20 shots from the foul line, while Drexel connected on just 5-of-9 shots from the charity stripe.
UNC-Wilmington advances to the semifinals of the CAA tournament and will face either six-seeded Delaware or third-seeded George Mason on Sunday.
