NBA Game Summary - Sacramento at LA Clippers

Los Angeles, CA (Basketball News) - Cuttino Mobley and Peja Stojakovic each scored 24 points as Sacramento came through with a 111-107 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Clippers at the Staples Center.

Mike Bibby added 19 points and Kenny Thomas had 16 along with eight rebounds for the Kings, who rallied from a 10-point deficit with less than five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to record their third win in four games.

"We were down 10 late and stayed with it. We made some key plays down the stretch," said Mobley.

Corey Maggette posted game-highs of 28 points and 12 rebounds for the Clippers, who dropped their second in a row. Elton Brand finished with 22 points and Bobby Simmons had 19, including a clutch three-pointer with 10 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.

The teams battled to an exciting finish just eight days after a memorable encounter in Sacramento, when Bibby hit a game-winning jumper with 0.4 seconds remaining in a 113-112 triumph.

Sacramento trailed 86-76 with 4:56 left in the fourth quarter but stormed back with a 12-2 run to draw even. Mobley dropped in eight of those points and knotted the score at 88-88 with a triple with 2:30 to go.

"(Mobley) got us going. He brought us back," said Kings coach Rick Adelman.

After Chris Kaman sunk two foul shots, Mobley buried another three-pointer at the two-minute mark to put the Kings up 91-90. The teams would then trade the lead down the stretch, with Bibby’s running jumper with 32 seconds to go giving Sacramento a 99-98 edge.

Los Angeles then missed two shots on the ensuing possession and Thomas hit two from the charity stripe for a three-point cushion with 17 seconds on the clock. Simmons then swished home a contested 25-footer to send the game into extra minutes.

The game was deadlocked at 105-105 after the first two minutes of overtime. Bibby then scored on a driving layup and made an outside jumper with 2:23 left for a four-point lead the Kings would not relinquish.

Shaun Livingston’s runner on the following trip down the court cut the deficit to two, and Sacramento missed its next three shots to give the Clippers a chance to tie or move in front. However, Maggette’s jumper with five seconds on the clock fell short and Mobley pulled down the rebound, then sealed the win by making two free throws.

The Clippers held a 24-19 advantage after one quarter, but Sacramento opened the second with an 11-2 run to move ahead. Two good free throws by Corliss Williamson put the Kings in front 26-25, and his three-point play three minutes into the period extended the lead to four.

Los Angeles moved back ahead on Livingston’s layup and subsequent made free throw with 3:58 remaining before intermission which made the score 37-36. Stojakovic answered with a basket from beyond the arc and converted a three- point play with 2:55 left to give the Kings a 42-37 edge.

The Clippers pulled to within 46-45 on Brand’s dunk with 40 seconds left in the half. A free throw from Stojakovic sent Sacramento into the locker room up by two.

Stojakovic’s three-pointer with 5:24 remaining in the third quarter put the Kings on top 62-56, but Los Angeles answered with 11 straight points to take a five-point lead with 2:19 left in the frame.

The Clippers continued to own the remainder of the quarter and went ahead 75-66 heading into the fourth after Kaman’s hook shot to end the period. The margin grew to 12 points after Mikki Moore’s layup and free throw to start the fourth.
