Shock acquire Pierson in deal with Phoenix

06.29.2005

Auburn Hills, MI (Basketball News) - The Detroit Shock announced Wednesday that the team has acquired forward Plenette Pierson from the Phoenix Mercury in exchange for guard Andrea Stinson and a 2006 second round draft pick.

Pierson, in her third season, was drafted by Phoenix with the fourth overall pick in the 2002 WNBA Draft. In her two-plus years, the 23-year-old has averaged 7.7 points and 3.6 rebounds.

"Pierson gives us an additional young forward to work into our rotation who can give us a boost with her scoring, rebounding, and ability to block shots at the 3 or the 4," said Detroit head coach and director of player personnel Bill Laimbeer.

Stinson, who is in her ninth season, spent the first eight campaigns of her WNBA career in Charlotte before signing with the Shock as a free agent during training camp. On the season, the 37-year-old veteran is averaging 1.4 points and 1.0 assists.
