Lakers 117, Pacers 118 The Pacers found themselves down 15 heading into the fourth quarter. After fighting back and finding themselves down by one with just seconds remaining, they had luck on their side. The most important rebound and points of Troy Murphy’s 16-point, 17-rebound performance rattled around the rim before finally dropping in as time expired, giving Indiana the win and giving the Lakers their first loss in eight games. Danny Granger scored 32 to lead Indiana and T.J. Ford had 21 points and eight assists. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers in the loss with 28 points, Pau Gasol had 20 points and nine rebounds.
Wizards 108, Nets 88 The last time Devin Harris was on the court, he came very close to putting up 50. His performance last night was much more pedestrian. Harris finished with 18 points as the Nets fell by 20 to the Wizards. Vince Carter added 16 in the loss. Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison scored 22 each for the Wizards and DeShawn Stevenson put in 21. Butler would also add 10 assists. The Wizards turned the ball over only seven times in the game and shot 52% to New Jersey’s 40%. Blazers 104, Knicks 97 New York went into the fourth quarter with the lead but was outscored by 11 in the final quarter as Portland went on to win their fifth straight. Brandon Roy led the Blazers with 23 points; Joel Przybilla had 14 boards. Chris Duhon had 23 points and 13 assists in the loss for the Knicks, who played only eight players as they try to sort out their roster and health issues. Clippers 98, Mavericks 100 If I told you that a team’s starters were outscored 91-36, you’d probably assume they lost. That same team’s bench, however, outscored the other team’s bench 64-7. None of that really means a whole lot though. What does matter is that Dallas came back from 15 down to win last night and go over .500 for the first time this year. Dirk Nowitzki had 29 points and 10 rebounds and Jason Terry 26 points for the Mavericks. Zach Randolph had 27 points and 10 rebounds and Al Thornton 23 and nine for the Clippers, who lost for the fifth time in six games.
Pistons 89, Spurs 77 Detroit overcame a ten-point lead on the road against the now-healthy Spurs, who seem to be taking some time to adjust to the players returning to the lineup. Rasheed Wallace and Allen Iverson shared the Pistons’ high-scoring honors with 19 each. Tayshaun Prince added 15 points and 12 rebounds. Tim Duncan scored 23 points and brought in 13 rebounds for the Spurs, who shot just 39% from the field. Tony Parker scored 18.
Sixers 103, Bulls 95 Neither team shot well and the game was sloppy with a combined 43 turnovers. But when overtime rolled around, the Sixers pulled out the win to avenge their loss Sunday to the Bulls. Andre Miller scored 28 points and Elton Brand recorded 22 points and 14 assists. Andre Iguodala had a strong game despite struggling for much of the season with 25 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Derrick Rose scored 24 for the Bulls and Ben Gordon added 18 and eight rebounds. Tyrus Thomas had 14 and 13 off the bench.
Raptors 93, Nuggets 132 If you thought Toronto played badly against the Lakers Sunday, their performance last night probably made you throw up in your mouth a little bit. The Raptors were never really in this one, as you might imagine when the final score is a 39-point margin. The lone bright spots for Toronto were Chris Bosh’s 24 points and 12 rebounds and Jermaine O’Neal’s 12 points in his first game back from injury. Chauncey Billups led Denver with 24 points and 14 assists and Carmelo Anthony scored 23 points despite an injured elbow. Denver has won three straight games now and five of their last six. And nine of their last 12. And 12 of their last 15. In short, the Nuggets are playing really well.
Jazz 99, Kings 94 Playing without Andrei Kirilenko and Carlos Boozer meant that Utah would need to play exceptionally well to win, even against the Kings. Then they went and turned the ball over 18 timmes in the first half. They’d finish with 25 on the night. Lucky for them, Sacramento shot 41%. People scored, rebounded, assisted, but what’s important is that it was the late game and no one was really watching.
