Thunder 89, Magic 98 Oklahoma City kept it close, but Orlando kept it together to give the Thunder their 18th loss of the year. Dwight Howard led Orlando with 21 points, 23 rebounds and six blocks. Jameer Nelson added 15 points and seven assists. Russell Westbrook led OKC with 19 points, Kevin Durant added 16 points and 10 rebounds. Lakers 106, Wizards 104 The Lakers are apparently trying to find ways to keep things interesting, as they nearly blew a 20-point lead to Washington before remembering that they’re supposed to be entertaining thoughts of winning 70+ games. Kobe Bryant had 23, 7 and 7; Pau Gasol 19 and 10. Caron Butler had 26 point and nine rebounds for the Wizards, Andray Blatche put in 18 and 12 off the bench. Knicks 95, Hawks 98 Al Harrington was almost the hero Friday night, but he missed a last second three as the Knicks dropped their third straight. Harrington finished with 27 points but was just 3-12 from deep. Marvin Williams led a very balanced Hawk attack with 18 points, Joe Johnson had 17.
Pacers 73, Cavaliers 97 LeBron James played like a mere mortal, but that didn’t stop the Cavs from winning an easy one for their 15th win in 16 games. James had only 11 points, but did contrinute eight rebounds and 11 assists. Three players scored 17 for Cleveland. Troy Murphy had 15 for the Pacers, Stephen Graham added 14.
Wolves 84, Nets 113 New Jersey used a very balanced effort to hand Minnesota their fourth straight loss. Seven Nets scored in double figures, led by Vince Carter’s 18. Randy Foye had 20 for the Wolves, Al Jefferson had 17 and 12 rebounds. Blazers 78, Celtics 93 The Celtics picked up their 11th straight win in blowout fashion against the Blazers, showing that they are still the team to beat this year. Ray Allen scored 19 points, Rajon Rondo put in 16 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Travis Outlaw and LaMarcus Aldridge shared team-high scoring honors for Portland with 13.
Sixers 96, Pistons 91 No Elton Brand? No problem. The Sixers, perhaps playing better because their squad resembled last year’s, held off Detroit last night. Andre Miller scored 19 points, Lou Williams had 16 off the bench. Richard Hamilton had 19 points in the loss, Allen Iverson added 17.
Clippers 81, Grizzlies 93 Rudy Gay scored 25 and O.J. Mayo 20 as Memphis snapped a seven-game losing streak. The Clippers, on a thee-game losing sstreak of their own, got 23 points and eight assists from Baron Davis and 21 points from Zach Randolph. Warriors 112, Rockets 131 Houston used a 19-point fourth quarter from Yao Ming to pull away from the overmatched Warriors. Yao finished with 33 points and 14 rebounds and Ron Artest had 28 points. Stephen Jacksoin scored 26 for Golden State and Corey Maggette had 23 points and 10 rebounds. The Rockets shot 17 more free throws than the Warriors. Raptors 87, Jazz 114 The Jay Triano era did not get off to a good start, as the Raptors went down early and never really made a game of it. Chris Bosh had 18 points and 11 rebounds, but no other player scored more than 13. Mehmet Okur led six Jazz players in double-figure scoring with 21 points. Paul Millsap had 17 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. The Jazz outrebounded the Raptors by 14; 10 of those were offensive.
