NBA Recap 11/17/08

  By Christopher Sells
11.18.2008 - Updated on 11.18.2008

Rockets 100, Thunder 89
Ron Artest, Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady all left the floor at different parts of the second half looking as if they were in varying degrees of pain. Luckily, the Rockets were playing the Thunder and were able to hold off a late rally to hand OKC their eighth straight loss. Luis Scola stepped up with 23 points and nine rebounds while Yao added 19 and 12 before walking off the court with a grimace late in the fourth. Kevin Durant had 29 points, seven rebounds and four steals for the Thunder, who were able to keep things interesting despite falling behind by 19 in the third.

Suns 97, Jazz 109
It used to be that the Suns were the best at a lot of what they did. Early in this new season, this is not the case, as the Jazz out-rebounded (47-26) and out-fast breaked (20-4) Phoenix to hand them their second road loss of the season. Utah got 21 points apiece from Carlos Boozer and C.J Miles and Boozer also added 15 boards. Andrei Kirilenko had 19 and 7 off the bench. Amare Stoudemire led Phoenix with 30 points and eight rebounds. Of the Jazz’s 47 rebounds, 17 were offensive, a stat made even more impressive by their 47% shooting.

Spurs 86, Clippers 83
When the Spurs signed Roger Mason this past offseason, they probably didn’t expect him to be a starter. They likely thought he’d make some nice contributions off the bench and give them some younger legs and a bit of depth. He’s used injuries to some of San Antonio’s key players to prove that he can give much more than that. Monday night, his three pointer in the closing seconds lifted the Spurs to a win over the Clippers. Mason would finish with 21 points while Tim Duncan had 20 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks. Cuttino Mobley led the Clips with 18 points. Chris Kaman had 17 points and 13 rebounds and Marcus Camby had nine rebounds and six blocks. The Clippers fell to 1-9 despite playing nine of their games in the Staples Center.
