Brown out two games; Mashburn on IL

03.16.2004

New Orleans, LA (Basketball News) - New Orleans Hornets forward P.J. Brown will miss the team’s next two games with an ankle injury.

Brown, who sprained the ankle Saturday against Golden State, will sit out contests against the Miami Heat Tuesday and the Philadelphia 76ers Wednesday. The Louisiana Tech product is averaging 10.5 points and nine rebounds in 66 games this season.

The loss of Brown currently leaves the Hornets without two-thirds of their starting backcourt. Forward Jamal Mashburn is also sidelined with an injury.

Mashburn, who was officially placed on the injured list Tuesday, is out for several weeks with a knee injury. He has already missed the Hornets’ last three games.

Mashburn is struggling with the same knee that forced him to miss the Hornets’ first 44 games of the season.

The 31-year-old Mashburn was the Hornets’ leading scorer during the 2002-03 campaign with a 21.6 points-per-game average. He played in all 82 games last season, including 81 starts, and also averaged of 6.1 rebounds and 5.6 assists.
