Bulls have playoffs in sight, host Wizards

04.14.2006

(Basketball News) - Two teams battling for their playoff lives square off tonight, as the Washington Wizards visit the Chicago Bulls at the United Center.

Washington is No. 5 in the Eastern Conference playoff race and owns a one-game lead over Indiana and Milwaukee, while Chicago is tied with Philadelphia for the eighth and final spot.

The Wizards are struggling, as they enter tonight’s contest on a four-game losing streak. On Wednesday, Michael Redd hit a turn-around jumper with 19.9 seconds left and T.J. Ford came up with a big steal with just two ticks remaining to lift the Bucks over Washington, 100-97, at the Bradley Center.

Gilbert Arenas had 25 points and six assists in the loss to Milwaukee for the Wizards, while Antonio Daniels added 21 points and six assists and Jared Jeffries finished with 20 points and eight boards in defeat.

Washington, which concludes a three-game road trip, is just 14-25 as the visitor this season.

The Bulls have won two straight games. On Wednesday, Ben Gordon netted 19 and pulled down five rebounds to lead Chicago to a 96-90 win over the Atlanta Hawks, 96-90, at Philips Arena.

Kirk Hinrich added 17 points, while Mike Sweetney scored 15 and grabbed five boards in the win over the Hawks for Chicago. Andres Nocioni posted a double- double with 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Bulls, who have won six of their last seven games overall.

Chicago is 19-20 at home this season. It has won three of its last four at the United Center.

The Bulls have won two of three meetings with the Wizards this season.

Washington has lost three straight at Chicago.
