Los Angeles Lakers Team Report - December 13 12.13.2003
|
(Basketball News) - The Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Dallas Mavericks, 110-93, on Friday at the Staples Center. The Lakers had their 27-game home winning streak snapped and lost for the first time in their last 11 overall.
Shaquille O’Neal was a perfect 7- for-7 from the floor for 25 points in the loss, but made just 11 of his season-high 24 free throws, including only one of his last six down the stretch. He added 14 rebounds.
The Lakers were three wins shy of their home-streak record of 30, set twice, both while the team called Minneapolis home. They are 12-1 a t home this season.
Dallas held a 57-52 lead at the half, but LA opened the third quarter by scoring seven of the first 11 points and pulled within 61-59 on Karl Malone’s bucket just over a minute into the stanza.
That was as close as the Lakers would come in the third, however. Dallas ended the quarter with a 10-1 burst and carried an 88-73 cushion into the fourth.
Los Angeles, which rallied for a thrilling 27-point fourth-quarter comeback against Dallas last December, couldn’t find a spark in this one. The Lakers ended with a two-point victory last year, but fell flat Friday.
LA got within 11 points late in the game when an O’Neal free throw made it 102-91 with 2:30 remaining to play. That capped a 12-2 burst for the Lakers, but that was as close as they would come. O’Neal was repeatedly fouled until LA coach Phil Jackson removed him from the game.
Kobe Bryant added 15 points for the Lakers, while Malone scored 14 in the loss.
The Lakers play at Portland tonight.
