NBA fines Miller for kicking ball into crowd

05.27.2004

New York, NY (Basketball News) - Indiana Pacers guard Reggie Miller was fined $5,000 by the NBA Thursday for kicking the ball into the stands after his team’s loss to Detroit in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals.

Miller, whose potential game-tying layup was blocked heroically by Detroit’s Tayshaun Prince in the closing seconds of Game 2, finished with only three points on 1-of-4 shooting in Wednesday’s Game 3 85-78 defeat.

When asked after the game if the act was done out of frustration, Miller replied, "the game was over. I was trying to give little Johnny a souvenir."

Indiana trails the Pistons 2-1 in the best-of-seven series with Game 4 slated for Friday night in Detroit.

Miller’s teammate Ron Artest was fined $10,000 by the league Tuesday after making an obscene gesture toward the crowd in Game 2.
