Pacers 96, Magic 110 The Magic used a strong performance from Dwight Howard to cruise to their fourth straight win. The center had 32 points, 21 rebounds and four blocks to lead the Magic. Rashard Lewis scored 24 and Hedo Turkoglu 22. The Pacers, perhaps feeling the ill effects of an overtime loss last night to Charlotte, got 27 points from Danny Granger and 21 points and eight boards from Marquis Daniels. Orlando shot 51% for the game.
Hawks 102, Wizards 98 Every Atlanta starter scored at 14 points and the Hawks shot 50% from the field as they handed Washington yet another loss. Mike Bibby’s 21 points and six assists were a team high for the Hawks. Al Horford scored 19, grabbed 13 boards and also had six assists. The Wizards had strong performances from Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler, who had 26,13 and 5 and 21, 10 and 5 respectively, but shot only 43% from the field.
Celtics 89, Bobcats 84 Charlotte kept it close, but they were unable to overtake the East’s best team last night. The Celtics improved to 16-2 behind Paul Pierce’s 19 points and Kendrick Perkins’ 15 and 12 rebounds. The Bobcats got 23 points and eight rebounds and from Gerald Wallace and 22 points from Jason Richardson. The team outshot, outrebounded and outassisted the Cletics, but had 22 turnovers that the Celtics converted into 23 points.
Warriors 125, Knicks 138 In a game that produced some ridiculous numbers, New York was able to outscore Golden State for the win. The Knicks dressed only seven players but manged to get 105 shots up, hitting 54 of them, to the Warriors 46 out of 101. Chris Duhon recorded 22 assists and David Lee 37 points and 21 rebounds; Al Harrington had 36 and 12. Corey Maggette scored 32 and snared 12 rebounds, C.J. Watson scored 23 off the bench. The Knicks scored an absurd 82 points in the first half and never looked back.
Nuggets 106, Wolves 97 Minnesota made it look more respectable than it was at the end, but they never really threatened the Nuggets, who won their seventh game in nine tries. Chauncey Billups scored 27 points and Carmelo Anthony had 25 points and 10 rebounds for Denver. Randy Foye led the Wolves with 25 points and six assists and Al Jefferson posted 20 points and 13 rebounds.
Thunder 111, Grizzlies 103 The Thunder won a game. A road game. To be fair, though, it was against the Grizzlies, who have now lost six straight. OKC’s Kevin Durant scored 30 points and had seven rebounds and Jeff Green scored 22 to give the team their second win of the season and their first win since November 2. O.J. Mayo scored 30 for Memphis in the loss.
Spurs 84, Rockets 103 The Tracy McGrady-less Rockets took advantage of a poor-shooting night for the Spurs (37%) to keep the Southwest Division lead. Houston got 21 points from Luther Head and 16 points and eight rebounds from Ron Artest. Tim Duncan rebounded the ball nine times and shared team high scoring honors at 17 with Matt Bonner (!).
Cavaliers 97, Bucks 85 When the Bucks looked as though they might make a game out of it, LeBron James did what LeBron James does. He scored 11 straight fourth-quarter points on his way to 32 with seven rebounds and five assists as the Cavs handed Milwaukee their fourth loss in a row. Michael Redd scored 20 off the bench in his first game back from injury and Richard Jefferson put in 19. Zydrunas Ilgauskas hsd 23 and 17 for Cleveland in their fifth straight win.
Nets 105, Jazz 88 Devin Harris’ 34 points and six assists and Vince Carter’s 22 points pushed the Nets to their fourth win in five games. The Jazz were unable to overcome below average shooting and turnovers as they fell behind in the second quarter and never recovered. Paul Millsap gave the Jazz 20 and 10 in the losing effort. Deron Williams handed out 13 assists.
Mavericks 101, Kings 78 Dallas’ schedule says they had a game with Sacramento scheduled for Saturday night. A box score confirms this, but the term game should used loosely. The Kings shot 35%, gave up too many points off of too many turnovers and scored fewer points in this game than the Knicks had in one half. The team has now lost six in a row. Jason Terry scored 24 and Dirk Nowitzki 19. The Mavs have won six out of seven.
