The Sucker [Video Demonstration]

When executed properly, few moves are as effective at embarrassing a defender as this.

  1. Dribble towards the basket, making sure that your defender stays close to you.

  1. When you reach the block, dribble the ball softly and catch it between your thigh and the back of your knee as you turn from the basket. Alternatively, catch the ball beneath your leg as is demonstrated in the video.

  1. Fake a shot with one hand. The defender should turn to look for the ball.

  1. Take the ball out from under your leg and continue as desired.

Check Yo’ Bags [Video Demonstration]

Use this one to startle your defender, but make sure not to let go of the ball. If you do, it could hit them in the face, and they may decide to return the favour. Check out the video below to see the trick.

The Punch [Video Demonstration]

Move Type: Game

Tip: Positioning of the ball is key. It must be placed close enough to the defender that they attempt to take it, but not so close that they can reach it before you do.

Notes: The original version of this move was invented by Rory "Disaster" Grace, who finished the trick by knocking the ball between the defender's legs with his fist. This is what gave rise to the name "The Punch".

Board Silly

This is another easy one, but popular nonetheless. You should begin somewhere around the free throw line.

  1. Dribble the ball through your legs to your right hand.

  1. In one smooth motion, throw the ball off the backboard and spin three hundred and sixty degrees counter-clockwise so that you are again square to the basket. This should cause your defender to turn around.

  1. Catch the ball in your left hand.

Harlem Globetrotters

The world-famous HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS were originally formed from the Wendell Phillips High School. The team played in the Negro American Legion League as the "Giles Post," and in 1927 turned professional as the Savoy Big Five under manager Dick Hudson. Later that year, promoter Abe Saperstein (Hall of Fame, 1971) bought the team and re-named it the Harlem Globetrotters.

Shammgod [Video Demonstration]

This move is the trademark of God Shammgod, formerly known as Shammgod Wells, who had a brief stint in the NBA with the Washington Wizards.

  1. With your right hand, dribble the ball so that it lands roughly a fifteen inches in front of your left foot.

  1. Lean forward as if to make a move towards the basket, but take the ball with your left hand and step back quickly. If performed smoothly, you’ll create a few feet of space between you and your defender.

The Hypnotizer [Video Demonstration]

Another move made famous by Sizzle himself, the Hypnotizer can be spectacular. This trick is only effective when your defender is playing you very closely.

  1. Crouch down very low to the ground and dribble the ball rapidly behind your back.

  1. Having done for this for a few seconds, cup the ball between your hand and wrist and flick it (from behind) over both you and the defender.

  1. Pretend to continue dribbling until the defender straightens up, then run around them and retrieve the ball.
