EBC Day Twenty: Crusaders vs. Ms. Jones’ X-Men

You’ll have to forgive me if I keep this one brief, but the word “snoozer” was invented for games like this one. The X-Men grab the Crusaders by the throat at the tip, scoring eleven straight points to build a double-digit lead before their opponents can make a dent in the scoresheet. Mercurial point guard PlayStation finally puts his team on the board with a driving layup, but he can’t stop them falling even further behind, the difference reaching fourteen at one point. A rapid turn of events puts the Crusaders back into contention, however, as The Magician knocks down a three before hitting another plus the foul, completing the rare four-point play. When they ice their third triple within the space of two minutes, the Crusaders draw within five points and look to have new life in this game. They cool off from beyond the arc, however, quickly falling back into their old ways to allow Ms. Jones to put in four layups and two dunks in a run that gives them a 36-19 lead at the half.
While the Crusaders are playing as if they actually care about the game in the second, they’re unable to make much of a dent in the deficit, coming closest at 52-39. The X-Men respond to the mini-rally, however, upping their effort on defence to force numerous poor shots while continuing to score steadily at the other end.

By the final minutes, the contest is effectively over, and very little of the crowd is still in the park to see a pair of big alley-oops by Ms. Jones in the dying moments. The game is finally called with a couple of ticks left, the X-Men taking an easy 75-55 victory.
