Could Australian Patrick Mills give Chris Paul, Deron Williams and Team USA trouble?

August 19 08

Last December, an Australian point guard helped Saint Mary’s University upset highly ranked Oregon in NCAA action. Two weeks ago, representing the Boomers national side, that same table-setter gave Team USA trouble in an exhibition friendly.

Of course, we’re referring to Patrick Mills. Pro scouts had overlooked the Canberra native because last year’s freshman class was full of high profile players. No more. Wednesday all eyes will rest squarely on the lightning-quick Mills when Australia faces Redeem Team in the Olympic quarterfinals.

Get acquainted with Mills by watching the clips. You’ll see him tomorrow and in the future.

(His freshman run with St. Mary’s –including the classic upset against Oregon.)

What are your thoughts on the Boomers’ Patrick Mills? What will he do against Team USA? Is he an NBA player? Get at us in the comment box below with your thoughts and come back to HoopsVibe The Blog for more NBA tidbits. Photo courtesy of Stefan Kahlert.

A BOOMER IS A NICKNAME WE HAVE FOR THE KANGAROO, WHICH IS A NATIVE ANIMAL TO AUS. YEAH MILLS ISNT AS GOOD AS CP3, WILLIAMS, AND KIDD. THATS OBVIOUS, BUT SHES SHOWING THE WORLD THROUGH THE OLYMPICS HES GOT THE SKILLS AND QUICKNESS TO MAKE IT INTO THE NBA ONE DAY, HE’LL BE THE FIRST ABBO PLAYER EVER TO DO SO, AWESOME ACHIEVEMENT .

I got to see Patrick Mills play all year in colelge at St. Mary’s. He is something special to watch. It won’t be long before he is in the NBA. He is lighting quick, can get to the rim, has great poise and plays under control. He is a lot like a Leandro Barbosa, but with better passing skills. He just needs to get a litte stronger, and finish better at the rim. He is almost there! .

As expected Boomers lost to the superior Redeem. As an Australian I was particularly encouraged that Mills would do well , 20 Points 2 Assists 3 Steals 1 Rebound in twenty nine minutes the statistics speak for themselves He did well . He scored four more points than the total points of the three point guards : Chris Paul , Jason Kidd , Deron Williams!!!! .

It’s Stereotypical Americans like you guys that give your country a bad name. I have lots of amercan friends who are awesome, but to the guys that wrote comments below, there’s a difference between Patriotism, Arrogance and Winning Gracefully - biggest flaw in your stereotypical American character - Being Graceful in Glory and Defeat is the sign of a true Champion - aka SPORTSMEN like Pete Sampras, Pat Rafter, Specifically Larry Bird, Magic Johnson - It’s that reason that you guys have had such a bad run over the last few years in basketball - all talk, all show - but no respect for the opponents. Take a leaf out of Kobe’s book - who said he won’t guard mills because he is "too quick" - Mills blitzed passed Jason Kidd and Williams to go coast to coast in his first posession last time they met. I’m not saying Australia will win, although I’d love to see it, but the guy is 19 years old - I don’t know of any other 19 y.o Americans, let alone around the world that can step up to two of the best PG’s in the US. Gentlemen, For a country with a population of 20 Million VS 300 Million in the US, I think that The Auissies have done a pretty good job thus far - Imagine how many Number 1 draft picks we would have if we had the same population as the US! Anyhow, the result is virtually penciled in, i’m hoping for a highly entertaining & Close match! .

By the way at least in our Aussie Rules Football they actually kick the ball most of the time and don’t wear sissy padding. When you call a sport football it should actually be called football because that’s how they dispose of it most of the time - by foot. .

Americans - so p------headed and arrogant, no wonder the Chinese are kicking the U.S. asses in gold at the olympics and are winning the medal count. At least we don’t over pay our athletes and our athletes show other athletes respect. Aussies win on heart and only get paid a quarter of what U.S. athletes get. They do it for their country and don’t have ANY drug cheats either, how you must be embarrassed by Marion Jones etc etc........ .

Aussies -like Mills- are going down. I mean come on. Paul, Williams, and even Kidd will eat this Mills cahracter all day. He was up-and-down with St. mary’s and he got nothing against THE MIGHTY USA!!!!!!! .

Mills is talented for An AUSSIE, which means he is merely an average player with semi-decent skills, if that at all!!!! HA! Team USA will house this child cause it’s Men, the Americans, against boys, Australians! By the way, what on earth is a boomer? .
