EBC Day Twelve: Dezert Heat vs. Hot 97 By C.Y. Ellis 07.11.2006 - Updated on 07.11.2006

Dezert Heat reclaim the momentum early in the second half, knocking down a triple and a twenty-footer around an easy layup to make it 44-37 with sixteen minutes left on the clock. Hot 97 settle themselves with ample time to come back, however, attacking the bucket and playing aggressive defence that pays off in a 14-4 run that puts them up 51-48 after a big put-back dunk. Toby and Kyle team up to keep the run going, contributing back-to-back-to-back layups which stretch Hot 97’s lead to nine.
Dezert Heat decide that enough is enough with four minutes to go, upping their effort for breakaway buckets that, coupled with Hot 97’s inability to hit a free throw, result in a 69-66 game in the final minute. While their foul-and-fire tactic pays off when Hot 97 clank another pair and give up a three in the dying seconds, the clock ultimately defeats Dezert Heat, who run out of time and end the game on the wrong side of a 71-68 scoreline.
