This is Rucker Park ...

Located on 155th street and 8th avenue in New York City is the legendary playground of Rucker Park. What’s special about this court is the level of the game played. Rucker is a pure place of street basketball expression where you will see the wildest, latest, and most impressives moves ever. The park got it’s name from a man who had a vision to use streetball as his tool to give the city’s youth the opportunity to express themselves. His name, Holcombe Rucker, the man who changed the game forever. The park was opened on February 23rd 1956 which was first named as P.S. 156 Playground. It wasn’t until 1974, 9 years after Mr.Rucker past away, a local law re-named it Holcombe Rucker. 

Some of the finest basketball players of all times have showed their skills on this Harlem court. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Nate Archibald, Connie Hawkins and more recently Kobe Bryant, Baron Davis, Allen Iverson, Shawn Marion, Jamal Mashburn, Kevin Garnett, and Stephon Marbury have played summer games at Rucker Park. 

The fame of this court has made it a spot for recent basketball commercials like the "retro Dr Funk" Vince Carter Nike ad. Today, two summer leagues make their home at Rucker Park, the EBC (Entertainer’s Basketball Classic) and the ’Rucker League’. The EBC runs monday through to thursday evenings, in the summertime while the ’Rucker League’ is on Friday evenings from June each year which was recently started up by Chris Rucker, the grandson of Holcombe Rucker, in which the park was named after.
