Boston, MA — John "Helicopter" Humphrey had 41 points at half time and he was just warming up. The Frenzy’s team captain and the ABA’s second leading scorer dropped a career high 65 points in a 137-131 win against the Maryland Nighthawks at Tripp Athletic Center.

Humphrey helped put the Frenzy up for good with a pair of free throws in the final minutes. Boston now (5-12) hit 18 three pointers in the game. Humphrey had twelve. He also went 11-13 from the free throw line in his first game back since aggravating a right ankle bruise.

"That was the best scoring game he’s ever had," said Frenzy assistant coach Lee Davis, who’s been involved in Humphrey’s basketball career since he coached him at West Cateret HS in North Carolina. "He’s had better games from the floor but he’s never been on a shooting roll like tonight," he added.

Humphrey did turn the ball over five times, one of the few blemishes on his box score. The Frenzy also got a punch from warrior big man Troy Brown. The Providence College grad scored 23 points and snatched 21 rebounds vaulting his division leading average to 12.9 per game.

Humphrey, who averaged 27 points coming in, bumped his season average to 31.2, placing him just one-tenth of a point behind Dontae Jones for the league lead in scoring.
