EBC Day Twenty-One: Certified vs. Dezert Heat

It’s an issue of sticking to the game plan today, and both teams seem committed to doing exactly that in the early stages, with Dezert Heat relying on the outside shooting of White Chocolate and The Future and Certified looking to Lights Out and co. for layups and dunks. It’s the latter strategy that pays off initially, Certified grabbing a 24-26 lead just before the ten-minute mark in the first half. The well of threes soon dries up for DH, however, and following an 8-0 run that goes against them, they find themselves with only half their opponents’ points at 32-16. Though they manage to make their way to the charity stripe on consecutive plays, they otherwise continue to struggle against the Certified defence, which makes steals on three straight plays which lead to a foul and two breakaway dunks.
With his team looking set to take the biggest ass-whupping of the season, White Chocolate regains his shooting touch, hitting an array of step-back jumpers that form the backbone of an 11-0 spurt that leaves them trailing only 55-38 at the break.

Certified’s “Stretch” stakes his claim to the play of the season early in the second with an alley-oop facial that has the crowd buzzing for a good five minutes after he misses the ensuing free throw. However, while his squad may have the lead in terms of highlights, Dezert Heat are quickly catching them up, again riding a streak of hot shooting to draw within twelve.

Certified keep their composure in the final minutes, though, tightening up on defence to keep DH from gunning their way back into the game. A couple of wide-open dunks make the final difference in this one, Certified taking the game 89-75.
