EBC Playoffs: Rich Soil Monstars vs. Team Certified

  By C.Y. Ellis

“Back, back and forth and forth/Back, back and forth and forth/Back, back…”

The summary of the game’s first five minutes comes courtesy of Mr. Meth, whose repetitive hook perfectly describes the seesawing score in this one. Eventually, however, RSM’s tougher-than-nails defence wears Team Certified down, and the team in yellow claws ahead, turning a 12-12 tie midway through the period into a 22-16 advantage by the five-minute mark.

A Certified timeout does little to settle them, and the Monstars’ one-two punch of The Wire and The Lumberjack makes them pay for their defensive disorganisation, combining for four straight buckets that give them a convincing 34-18 lead at the half.

It’s the Lumberjack-Wire combo that continues to do the damage after the break, although Certified manage to stay their ground on the back of Lights Out’s strong play, trailing 43-26 with fourteen left on the clock. With the Monstars visibly fatigued, Certified find the extra gear and mount a 12-0 run that brings them – and the crowd – back into the game.

It goes no further than that, however, as The Wire steps up again, repeatedly finding his way into the paint for layups and short jumpers. With Certified incapable of making a reponse this time, the gap continues to grow until the final minute, with the score standing at 72-49 when the game is called.
