Magic Johnson thinks the Lakers should trade Dwight Howard

Magic Johnson just made it clear (on National TV) that if he was Lakers CEO Jim Buss, he would trade Dwight Howard.

Hoopsvibe's quick call:  It's very obvious that Magic isn't the biggest fan of this Lakers team.  And rightfully so.

Last Chance At Ring For Juwan Howard, Fab Five

We all know how important a victory in tonight's game five of the NBA Finals is for LeBron James, but everyone is forgetting how important it is for Juwan Howard.

HoopsVibe Very Quick Call: Don't think for a second that a Heat victory tonight doesn't mean a lot to Jalen Rose, Jimmy King, Ray Jackson and Chris Webber.

Jalen Rose gets 20 days in Jail for DUI, keeping ESPN gig?

A Michigan judge has sentenced former NBA guard Jalen Rose to serve 20 days in jail for a drunken driving crash along a snowy suburban Detroit road in March.

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Hopefully, this saga is over.

Last spring former NBA and college star turned ESPN analyst Jalen Rose was arrested for drunk driving in Detroit, but didn’t tell the broadcaster because he thought they might not air his 30-for-30 documentary The Fab Five.

Today, Rose learned he’ll spend 20 days in jail for the offense. He’ll begin serving his sentence on Tuesday. And it seems he’ll keep his gig with ESPN, too.

Ironically, a theme of The Fab Five doc’ was that Rose and his teammates (Chris Webber aside) had grown into adulthood and were making good decisions despite their tough circumstances.

It seems this is a lesson Rose still has to learn -the hard way.

Grant Hill to follow in Jason Kidd’s footsteps?

He watched Jason Kidd, a fellow rookie of the year, win his first title last month, and is willing to keep striving for an opportunity to play in the Finals. Hill's career has gone from one of promise, to misfortune, to longevity, and he is willing to wait out a potentially long lockout.

Link

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: To pull a ‘J-Kidd’, he can't re-sign with the Phoenix Suns.

The end is near for the 38-year old Grant Hill. The former Duke legend and NBA All-Star doesn't believe the end is now, though.

Instead, he’ll wait for the lockout to end and, inspired by Dallas Mavericks legend Jason Kidd, try for a championship.

Here’s the thing: Hill won’t win with the Phoenix Suns. Heck, Hill might not see the playoffs if he stays in Arizona.

This falls on Suns owner Robert Sarver. He doesn’t have the resources to sign and/or keep talent. A new Collective Bargaining Agreement won't do enough for Sarver, even if there's a hard cap with flexibility.

So Hill will have to leave as a free agent. He will have to part with pal Steve Nash. He will have to risk injury by forging a relationship with new trainers.

This seems scary, but Hill has survived numerous ankle surgeries, a life saving procedure in Orlando, failures at the pro‘ level, and unfortunate comments in a documentary by former rival Jalen Rose.

Free agency won’t phase him. Hill will weigh his options and do what's best. In a year, like Kidd, he could also be hoisting the Larry O'Brien trophy.

Jalen Rose apologizes for DUI, suspended by ESPN

ESPN has suspended NBA analyst Jalen Rose from the airwaves as a result of his March 11 DUI arrest. His name came under scrutiny again after it was revealed he was arrested in Detroit on the suspicion of drunken driving after he was involved in a single-car accident in a Detroit suburb.  A Detroit news station broke the story weeks after Rose’s arrest and before ESPN leaving questions as to whether or not Jalen Rose reported the incident to his ESPN bosses.

"I apologize to my family, my employer and each and every one of my supporters for my lapse in judgment. I am particularly sorry for disappointing those who trust me to serve as a role model for young people. I accept full responsibility for my actions and look forward to a resolution of the legal matter as soon as possible."

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Unfortunately, Jalen Rose’s apology rings a bit hollow.

If he was truly sorry, he’d have admitted his lapse to ESPN before a Detroit news station broke the story. But Rose was worried about the impact on his Fab’ Five documentary, which was scheduled to air as part of ESPN's 30-for-30 series.

Rose has talent. He’s personable and isn’t afraid to speak his mind –regardless of what others think. Hopefully, he exercises better judgment going forward, and we can hear and watch him on-air again soon.

Jalen Rose calls Grant Hill an ‘Uncle Tom’

"I hated Duke and I hated everything Duke stood for. Schools like Duke didn't recruit players like me. I felt like they only recruited black players that were Uncle Toms," Rose said in the documentary.

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Today, ESPN is running a 30-for-30 documentary on Michigan’s ‘Fab Five’, where Jalen Rose reportedly calls African-American players at Duke ‘Uncle Toms’.

Yes, ‘The Fab Five’ hasn’t played a game together in over a decade and a half, but they’re still controversial.

Personally, I don’t think it’s appropriate to comment on another race; however, I have included a link to Grant Hill’s response.

Jalen Rose on Mike D’Antoni: ‘he was determined not to play me … HATER’

I didn't leave the NBA washed or banged up..Mike D'anPHONY didn't let me contribute my last year..he was determined not me play me..HATER.

Link

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Gee, ever wonder why Jalen Rose hasn’t made it big as an analyst?

After retiring from the NBA, Rose was seen as the next big thing in the broadcast booth. Many were predicting he’d give TNT stars Charles Barkley and/or Kenny Smith a run on the mic`.

Well, they were wrong.

While Rose hasn’t flopped, his second career hasn’t gone as planned, either. Currently, he’s a secondary analyst for ESPN, and calling a former coach - who happens to ply his trade in the league’s biggest market – a ‘HATER’ won’t help.

Oh yeah, let the record show Mike D’Antoni’s Phoenix Suns went 61-21 in 2006-07, which was Rose’s final season in the NBA.
