Rumor: Heat interested in Martin, Przybilla?

The Heat have offered contracts to both Joel Przybilla and Kenyon Martin, their agents told ESPN.com. Przybilla is expected to make a choice between the Chicago Bulls and Heat, according to agent Bill Duffy. Martin is interested in several teams, with the Heat in the mix, according to agent Andy Miller.

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: The strong could soon get stronger.

Word is the Miami Heat is scouring the free agent stock piles looking for a big to add to their already potent line-up -and the've targeted Kenyon Martin and/or Joel Przybilla.

Make no mistake about it, Martin and Przybilla would solidify a somewhat average middle for the reigning Eastern Conference champions.

Chris Bosh, a skilled four, would be able to drift to the elbow and face up. Joel Anthony would be more effective in reduced minutes. And the Heat’s already nasty and gritty defense would get a whole lot nastier and grittier.

All it would cost is a ne of the Heat's exceptions.

Video: Was Stevenson vs. Haslem a suspendable offence?

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: It’s irrelevant. But only because the Dallas Mavericks won game six and the NBA Title.

In the first half of game six, the Mavericks’ DeShawn Stevenson and Miami Heat’s Udonis Haslem exchanged shoves. Several players on both teams left their bench, which is a no-no.

A player is automatically suspended one game by league VP Stu Jackson, also known as the worst GM in the history of sports, for leaving the bench during an altercation.

So, it looked like the Mavericks and Heat would both be shorthanded for game seven.

There won’t be a game seven, though. The Mavericks won the series. And players, like Joel Anthony and Brian Cardinal, had an out because Stevenson and Haslem’s incident occurred during a timeout.

Still, it would've been interesting to see what the NBA would’ve done if there was a game seven.

My thought: Corporal/Commissioner Stern and lackey Stu would have issued a suspension of sorts just to prove a point.

After all, they’ve typically ruled by the letter of the law, and not the spirit of the law.

Even when common sense should rule the day. And even if it would've overshadowed game seven of the NBA Finals.

(Did this incident warrant a suspension?)

Video: Josh Smith is Joel Anthony’s worst nightmare

HoopsVibe`s Very Quick Call: Joel Anthony better prepare for it.

The Miami Heat’s reserve center is Josh Smith’s latest poster-job victim. Hundreds of thousands of hoop fans will watch Smith throw-down a left-handed jam on Anthony via youtube. If that wasn't bad enough, Anthony got called for a foul.

Dwyane Wade: Miami Heat will be good defensively

Through the first few days of training camp, Dwyane Wade has been impressed with Miami's defensive potential. "I know where we're going to be good, it's going to be defensively," said Wade.

Link

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Defense wins championships. It’s a constant in the modern era of the NBA.

The great Chicago Bulls –even with all-world offensive talents like Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen – won six titles in eight years because they got stops.

The San Antonio Spurs became a quasi-dynasty because Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker, and David Robinson took care of their own end.

The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers won the last three championships by playing air-tight ‘D’.

So Dwyane Wade is right: the Miami Heat will win with defense. Not star power.

Fortunately, the Heat has the makings of a strong defensive team: Wade is an above average defender; LeBron James took major steps towards being a lockdown guy in 2010; Chris Bosh was a surprisingly decent banger for Team USA at the Beijing Olympics.

If the Three Kings defend, others will follow. Joel Anthony and Udonis Haslem, two blue-collar posts, will have no trouble adjusting. Shooters Eddie House and Mike Miller will do their part. Mario Chalmers, an above average defender, and Carlos Arroyo will hold their own at the one-spot.

Forget the glamour. Forget the hype. If Miami collectively commits to playing defense, they will win. History is on their side.

True or False: Toronto trading Bosh to Miami for Anthony, Beasley, and Chalmers?

ESPN's NBA contributor Dan LeBatard reports that the Raptors are poised to complete a sign-and-trade deal with Miami that would see Bosh go to the Heat for power forward Michael Beasley, point guard Mario Chalmers and forward Joel Anthony.

Link

HoopsVibe's Very Quick Call: Right now, this is a report. Nothing more.

And LeBatard broke this via twitter, so draw your own conclusions; however, the ESPN scribe is typically on point with the happenings of the Miami Heat.

Still, TSN and The Globe and Mail - which are both based out of Toronto - also have a strong relationship with key people in the Raptors' front office. They've both disputed LeBatard's report. So, again, draw your own conclusions.

Some will hope this report is baseless for the Canadian dinos. They'll argue Bosh is a frontline superstar, and the club has to get more than Anthony, Beasley, and Chalmers.

Perhaps.

Of course, CB4 is an unrestricted free agent. On July 1st, he can walk and the Raptors would get nothing back. Some compensation is better than no compensation.

Still, the next few days will be interesting. Chris Bosh, the Miami Heat, and the Toronto Raptors will be in the middle of the action.

Fact or Fiction? What are your thoughts on this report that Bosh has been traded to the Heat? Come back to HoopsVibe News for more this developing story!
