Derek Fisher and Steve Blake perfect duo for Lakers

The Lakers signed guard Steve Blake this summer, an addition that will likely help give veteran Derek Fisher some rest. Andy Kamenetzky of ESPNLosAngeles.com writes that the Lakers may have finally found an option to start over Fisher.

HoopsVibe's Very Quick Call: The Los Angeles Lakers are expecting Derek Fisher to pass the baton to Steve Blake.

After all, Fisher is in his late thirties. Blake is an established pro, with a reputation for tenacity, intelligence, and feistiness.

Problem is, D-Fish' is a purple-and-gold cult hero, defying age with clutch shots and heady play.

For instance, Jordan Farmar and Javaris Crittenton were tabbed to replace the veteran. Both are with different teams, while Fisher - after much outcry - was re-signed this summer.

Blake is a different breed, though. In December of 2007, he turned the Portland Trail Blazers' season around by participating in a practice that was more like Fight Club. He's also been known to train with MMA fighters.

Look for Blake to learn from and eventually replace Fisher. Like B.J. Armstrong replacing John Paxson, and Derek Fisher replacing Ron Harper, there will soon be a new lead guard in Phil Jackson's triple-post system.

And the world champion Lakers will only get stronger after this well-thought out transition.

Jalen Rose: `LeBron James will not be returning to the Cavs’

Jalen Rose: ``It is almost CERTAIN that LEBRON JAMES WILL NOT be returning to the CAVS!”

Link

HoopsVibe`s Very Quick Call: Rose, an analyst for ESPN, also tweets that the Bulls, Clippers, and Heat are the top three destinations for James.

Of course, all these organizations have issues: the Bulls - a contender because of Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah - have unstable management with GM John Paxson going all 'Fight Club' on former coach Vinny Del Negro; the Clippers have talented players, but an awful owner in Donald Sterling; and the Heat may prefer a big like Chris Bosh as a sidekick to Dwyane Wade.

The Cavaliers aren't out of the sweepstakes, as they have a financial and personal advantage over the competition.

For instance, they can offer James $30 million more than any team. They can also offer an extra year on his max' contract.

And don't forget that James, who can afford to live anywhere in the world during the summer, makes his off-season home in nearby Akron, Ohio, where he grew up.

Clearly, James is comfortable in Cleveland. And clearly, he`s connected to Ohio. This loyalty will be a huge factor in his decision.

Rose may be right: James could still bolt on the Cavaliers. But it`s far from a certainty.

Fired for fighting: John Paxson must leave Chicago Bulls for provoking confrontation with Vinny Del Negro

The Quick Hit: John Paxson, the player, was known for knocking down jump shots. John Paxson, the front office suit, may be known for knocking down coaches.

Today, reports surfaced that the former guard and current Executive Vice President of the Chicago Bulls provoked a ‘physical altercation’ with sideline boss Vinny Del Negro over Joakim Noah’s playing time following a March 30th loss to the Phoenix Suns.

Let us be clear: ‘physical altercation’ is code for fight. And while Paxson vs. Del Negro isn’t exactly Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier or even Georges St. Pierre vs. Dan Hardy, their wee donnybrook is sufficient grounds for Michael Jordan’s backcourt mate to finally be fired.
