The NBA’s five highest paid teams

The NBA’s five highest paid teams

The following is a list of the NBA's top five highest salaried teams.  (And thanks to for providing the data).

Hoopsvibe's quick call:  This list proves that the best team isn't always the one that spends the most money.

1.)  The Los Angeles Lakers - $102,256,438

Point and case.  The Lakers may have the largest payroll in the league but their current record is the worst on this list.  The organization kept busy this offseason and when they acquired both Dwight Howard and Steve Nash, it was looking like the purple and gold were the team to beat.  And indeed, they have been the team to beat.  Yes, it's still early in the season, but having won only three games with their expensive lineup is pretty embarrassing. Let's hope the recent hiring of Mike D'Antoni turns things around.

2.)  The Miami Heat - $87,595,822

It shouldn't come as much of a shock that the Heat are number 2 on this list.  They pretty much cleared out their books a few years ago to make sure there was enough cap space for Lebron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade to be on the roster.  And as it turns out, that was a good idea.  Micky Arison, Pat Riley and company made a good decision in doing so seeing that the Heat are the defending NBA Champions and are currently sitting at the top of their division.

3.)  The New York Knicks - $82,010,527

The Knicks could quite possibly be the surprise of the season so far.  J.R. Smith is posting career numbers, averaging 18.2 points per game.  Raymond Felton is averaging 14 points and 6.2 assists while Carmelo Anthony's 26.8 ppg leads the league in scoring.  As a result, they're 5-0; all the while Amare Staudemire has been on the bench with knee injury.  Who knows if they'll keep it up, but it will certainly be interesting to see how they play with Amare back in the lineup.

4.)  The Brookyln Nets - $83,511,726

The NBA's newest team are 4-2 to start the season.  They have a new stadium in the Barclays Center and with Deron Williams, Brooks Lopez, Kris Humphries and Joe Johnson on their payroll, they certainly have a few expenses.  But if they continue to win games, those expenses most likely won't be much of an issue.

5.)  The Memphis Grizzlies - $77,098,154

I was pretty surprised when Memphis came in at #5 on this list.  I would have thought Boston, or San Antonio, or even Oklahoma City would have been ahead of the Grizz.  Then again, they do have Rudy Gay, Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol on their roster.  Those three guys alone take up about $47 million of the payroll.  And for good reason; they combine for over 51 points per game.

Lamar Odom on shrinking role with Mavs: ‘It is what it is’

Odom tried to find an ounce of humor in the sad situation, but the reality is it appears Carlisle is done with the spin, done with the positive reinforcement and maybe even done putting Odom on the floor with nine games left that are so vital to the defending champs' postseason hopes in this strange, strange season. "I can’t read it," Odom said of the immediate future. "It is what it is. What can I do? Coach is always right."

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Lamar Odom became a target the moment he went on TV for something other than basketball.

People fall in love. And Odom fell in love with Khloe Kardashian. But he didn’t have to be part of her reality world, hawking their relationship and various lifestyle products on the ‘E’ network.

Being such a public figure means perhaps he gets more of the blame than he deserves for the Dallas Mavericks’ poor play.

Make no mistake about it, Odom has been disappointing since coming over from the Los Angeles Lakers in a pre-season trade.

But what did Team Cuban expect?

Odom -- when unfocused and uninspired -- is a soft player. There was no way he could do any of things Tyson Chandler did for the Mavericks’ championship run.

Of course, the Mavericks never really wanted Odom. They wanted his contract, which they’ll buy-out at season’s end in order to chase free agent point guard Deron Williams.

Here’s what Odom should do: contact his former brother-in-law Kris Humphries. The Nets’ power forward, after an acrimonious divorce to Kim Kardashian, has kept a low profile, given up on being a second-rate celebrity, and focused on basketball.

Odom should do the same. His career, as a basketball player, depends on it.

King Gets A Queen: LeBron to marry girlfriend Savannah Brinson

Chris Paul via twitter: Happy for my brother @KingJames and sis @SavannahRB on their engagement!!! Extremely happy for them and the good times to come #HappyNewYearSun Jan 01 06:06:50 via UberSocial for BlackBerry. Link HoopsVibe's Very Quick Call: He isn't worried by Kobe Bryant's pending divorce. And Kris Humphries' sham marriage and current status as the NBA's 'MHP' (most hated player) doesn't phase him, either. The twitter world is abuzz because Miami Heat superstar LeBron James finally proposed to long-time girlfriend Savannah Brinson over the weekend. Perhaps James was inspired by Michael Jordan, who got engaged last week to his Cuban model girlfriend Yvette Prieto.  Perhaps not. So, will James and Brinson's union end in tears and tabloid covers or will these two live happily ever after? Let HoopsVibe News know your thoughts in the comment box below. Thanks, Kim Kardashian: Kris Humphries most hated player in NBA

Thanks, Kim Kardashian: Kris Humphries most hated player in NBA

Then recently, Humphries’ marriage to Kardashian was over – 72 days after it started. Then came the speculation: Was the marriage fake all along? Was Kim really caught in a nude Yoga session with a male instructor in their home? It’s all created enough tabloid fatigue for the public, when asked which player in the NBA they most dislike, now choose Humphries’ name before any other. Link HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: You know LeBron James is grinning from ear-to-ear. After all, James was public enemy number one, facing the wrath of fans, the media, his peers, and what seemed like all 7 billion residents of planet earth for ‘The Decision’ and ‘The Pre-Emptive Championship Celebration’. Well, Kris Humphries, who was once Mr. Kim Kardashian, has replaced King James as the most despised in the NBA. No surprise here. For months, Humphries’ dome has been plastered on every gossip rag because of his relationship with the high profile Kardashian. Of course, many feel the whole thing was staged -including their 72 day marriage. Humphries best course of action: forget the celebrity life and focus on being a pretty decent power forward for the rebuilding New Jersey Nets. --Got thoughts? Rumor: Kim Kardashian breaks Kris Humphries’ heart with divorce

Kim Kardashian filed for divorce Monday morning, after 72 days of not-so-wedded bliss to Kris Humphries  ... TMZ has learned, and now we have the documents. We're told even though the marriage was short, she is not seeking an annulment. It's a garden variety divorce, in which Kim cites "irreconcilable differences." The date of separation is listed as today, Oct. 31, 2011.  According to the docs, Kim wants Kris to foot his own lawyers' fees and she'll pay hers.  And, she wants the court to reject any move by Kris to get spousal support. Link HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Alas, it was not meant to be. The whirlwind romance and marriage between reality celebrity Kim Kardashian and NBA power forward Kris Humphries has ended in, well, a whirlwind. Kardashian has reportedly filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. Meanwhile, Humphries, who learned of the split via TMZ, is crushed and will do anything and everything to fix things. Memo to Humphries: move on. Your marriage wasn’t - in the words of Andre 3000 - ‘forever, ever‘. The four-man should have been suspicious when Kardashian’s people phoned around the NBA in search of a potential mate last season. This was highly unorthodox -even by today’s standard of E-Harmony matchmaking, fix-me-ups and internet cattle-calls. Alarm bells should’ve been ringing when recent reports circulated that the folks at E-Television, including Kardashian, initially preferred an Italian three-man to Humphries. The whole thing stunk of premeditation -even for the premeditated world of the Kardashian family and  reality television. So Humphries knew what he was getting into. It’s time he returns to being just a basketball player and retires from being a second-rate celebrity. --Got thoughts? Well, get at HoopsVibe News in the comment box below.

Marriage And NBA Players: Just Don’t Do It

With the endlessly publicized marriage of reality skanklet Kim Kardashian to NBA Kris “Who’s He?” Humphries taking place this weekend, it reminded me of several other ill-fated NBA player marriages.

NBA lets Nets attend Kris and Kim’s wedding

A team official says the Nets have been granted permission to attend the reality star's marriage to forward Kris Humphries on Saturday in California.General manager and other members of the Nets' basketball operations department are expected to attend the ceremony of their free agent forward, the official told The Associated Press on Tuesday on condition of anonymity because the guest list was to remain private. With players and their teams not supposed to be in contact during the lockout, they must check with the league about events where they would be together.

HoopsVibe's Very Quick Call: The New Jersey Nets can attend The Wedding.

Much to the relief of the Nets organization, they have permission from league head office to go to forward Kris Humphries and celebrity Kim Kardashian's wedding.

They, of course, had to ask permission because the lockout bans teams from talking to players. Special allowances for special circumstances can be made. And apparently The Wedding of the summer is special enough.

Good for the Nets. Good for Kris. Good for Kim.

While we're at it, how about the powers that be get to talking about a new Collective Bargaining Agreement? And soon.

I'm pretty sure an NBA season is special to fans.
