NBA Fantasy Basketball: First Week Rewind

What NBA player had the best first week of the 2013-2014 NBA season?

HoopsVibe Very Quick Call: Philadelphia 76ers guard Michael Carter-Williams got off to a great start, but so did a few other players.

I’ll admit, prior to this week I was getting him confused with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, but that won’t be happening anymore.

The rookie from Syracuse averaged 20.7 ppg, 9.0 apg, 4.7 rpg and an NBA leading 4.3 spg. Even more impressive than his stat line, was the fact that he led them to victories over the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls. The 76ers are 3-0 and off to their best start since 2006-07 when they were led by Allen Iverson.

After one of the worst and weirdest off-seasons in NBA history, they got at least one thing right in selecting Carter-Williams in the NBA Draft.

Russell Westbrook is back.

A knee injury for an explosive player is always a scary thing. Especially when it takes two offseason surgeries in the span of a couple of months to address the issue. Westbrook made his debut last night roughly a month ahead of schedule and looked like the same Westbrook.

There was rust in terms of shooting percentage, but his final line is what you expect and generally get from Westbrook night in and night out; 21 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds.

Anthony Davis is who the Pelicans “Thought he was.”

It was an awesome week for last year’s #1 overall draft pick. Davis averaged 23.7 ppg, 12.3 rpg and 4 bpg in three games for the Pelicans.

Most impressively, Davis made 19 of 20 free throw attempts, a scorching 95% clip. Somewhere, two of the best free throw shooting big men, Jack Sikma and Yao Ming, are smiling.

Kyle Korver on historic three-point streak.

Korver has hit a three-pointer in 76 consecutive games which is the fourth longest streak in NBA history. He is just two games behind former Orlando Magic stud Dennis Scott for third place and 13 games behind the all-time leader, Philadelphia 76ers Dana Barros with 89.

Korver has started all three games for the Hawks and has responded, averaging 15.4 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 3.3 apg, 2.3 spg and even 1.0 bpg. He has connected on 12 of 18 three-point attempts, good for an insane 66% from downtown. If you haven’t picked him up in your fantasy basketball league, do it now!
