Wildcats give Olson win No. 500

Tucson, AZ (Sports Network) – Channing Frye scored 20 points and Andre
Iguodala chipped in 18, leading fourth-ranked Arizona to a 107-73 rout of
Northern Arizona at the McKale Center.

The Wildcats (1-0) played their season-opener and gave Lute Olson his 500th
win as Arizona head coach. Entering his 21st season in Tucson, Olson now has a
mark of 500-147 with Arizona.

“It was great to get my 500th win at Arizona tonight,” Olson said. “It has
been a long haul; there have been a lot of games and a lot of great memories
for me and this program.”

Isaiah Fox contributed 15 points and 11 rebounds in the victory, while Mustafa
Shakur scored 14 points in his collegiate debut.

“I just let the game come to me,” said Shakur. “I don’t try to force anything.
I try to push the ball up court and create.”

Kodiak Yazzie scored 16 points to lead Northern Arizona (1-1), which had
opened its season with a victory over Cal State-Fullerton. The Lumberjacks
have lost 21 straight to Arizona, last beating the Wildcats in 1968.

Northern Arizona took a 2-0 lead on a jumper by Ruben Boykin, but the Wildcats
scored the next 13 points. Frye, Iguodala and Hassan Adams each scored four
during the spurt and Arizona never looked back.

The Wildcats built a 25-10 lead midway through the half, but the Lumberjacks
tried to stay within shouting distance at 30-19 on a three-pointer by Kelly
Golob with just over seven minutes left.

Arizona responded with a 12-3 run. Two free throws by Shakur capped the burst
and gave the Wildcats a 42-22 advantage with 3 1/2 minutes remaining in the

Frye scored 12 and Iguodala added 11 for Arizona in the opening 20 minutes, as
the Wildcats built a 53-31 cushion.

The second half was more of the same, as Arizona scored eight of the first 10
points to grab a 61-33 edge.

The Wildcats used a 12-0 run moments later to open a 75-38 lead and cruised to
the easy victory.
