Is Evan Turner a possible franchise player for the Sixers?

People are writing him off already? Why? Is it because he’s not athletic like Derrick Rose? Is it because he’s not explosive like LeBron James? Is it because he is not a scoring dynamo like Kobe Bryant? Or is it because Turner is not getting the gold star “The One” treatment like Kevin Durant? I just overheard some guy cough, but ended up vomiting. I’ve seen too much of Durant from the big networks to vomit for days.

Evan Turner had two great preseason games. What’s the problem? Don’t understand what is going on in Philly. Writing him off before the first regular season game? Seriously? I bet things changed when said player chimed in 16 points on 7-10 shooting, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and a block on Chris “Just Wanna be on TV” Bosh. This was coming off the bench, too. He also did something disturbing on Dwyane Wade.

The next three games have been bad for him. Against Atlanta, he registered zero points, 4 assists, and 2 rebounds. Against Indiana, Turner had 9 points and 7 rebounds. Finally against Washington, he put in 9 points and 6 rebounds. He looked really bad against John Wall, who had 29 points, 13 assists, and 9 steals. Hey, let’s not forget that Wall had 8 turnovers. That put his PER down.  The point is the kid ET paled in comparison to Wall. People are still writing him off.

Turner is caught in a numbers game in Philly. There are too many similar players at his position. The organization is also doing their best to showcase Andre Iguodala’s game for trades. This explains why he is not starting. That is not the only reason however.

He does not have a reliable jump shot and rookies do not get much respect. Turner has to earn it. Deron Williams didn’t start his rookie year. Everything will be fine. Just do not write him off as some kind of bust. That is very stupid and premature.

Is Doug Collins freezing out Turner?

Hell no. The man coached Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Grant Hill. I’m pretty sure he knows what’s up with Turner. Some fans claim that it’s a knee jerk move from other bad preseason games. I repeat – he only had 2 great preseason games, but his overall performance during that time was crap. Even Turner will claim that himself. Simply put, the kid has to earn the playing time and make better decisions.

Is Turner a franchise player for the Sixers?

Yes. He has to become that. Iguodala did not pan out to be that superstar. Turner has all the tools and basketball IQ to do it just without a jump shot. He’s the best thing they have since Allen Iverson. I saw some glimpses already to be an all around stat whore like Tyreke Evans. Is he a guy you build your team around? You have to. They have to. There is nothing else. There is nobody else. Casual fans stop writing him off. So he is not a starter… So? Big deal. Enjoy watching someone earn his stripes.
