Report: Gilbert Arenas Pulled Gun on Javaris Crittenton in Locker Room

Report: Gilbert Arenas Pulled Gun on Javaris Crittenton in Locker RoomThankfully, Agent Zero isn’t as quick on the trigger in the locker room as he is on the court.  It turns out that the decision to hand over his firearms to Verizon Center security was motivated by a confrontation which saw Gilbert Arenas pull a gun on teammate Javaris Crittenton in the midst of a dispute over a gambling debt.  Word is that Arenas owed Crittenton money after losing at cards but refused to settle his account with the fellow Wiz guard.  Crittenton allegedly yelled "I’m not your punk!" at Arenas and, staring down the barrel of Gil’s heater, pulled a piece of his own.

News of the stand-off came from Kendrick "Bookie Ball" Long, a buddy of Crittenton’s from Atlanta, who exposed the affair with the following statement:

"[Gilbert Arenas] was fucking with [Javaris Crittenton]…[Crittenton] was just defending himself!"

While Long was omitted the exact root of the dispute, he did confirm that it centered on money.

This could be a very big deal.  There was trouble enough when we thought Gil had, as he claimed, only brought the firearms to the Verizon Center in order to keep them away from his newborn daughter and to hand them over to officials.  If it transpires that Gilbert Arenas did, in fact, pull a weapon on Javaris Crittenton in the locker room, the potential punishment meted out by the NBA could be enormous.  The initial response by Billy Hunter, head of the NBA players’ union, only hints at the gravity of the situation:

"This is unprecedented in the history of sports. I’ve never heard of players pulling guns on each other in a locker room."

Of course, when guns are involved, it’s not only the NBA that has an interest.

"It’s in the hands of [Washington] authorities…We’re going to get to the bottom of this, if there is a bottom to this." – Ernie Grunfeld, General Manager of the Washington Wizards

"We’re working with the Metropolitan Police Department on the investigation. That’s about all we can say at his point."
– Ben Friedman, spokesman for the US Attorney’s Office in DC.

If this account proves to be true, what are the potential consequences?  How should the Washington Wizards handle the situation?  Will the NBA suspend the teammates for the showdown?  Could Gilbert Arenas see jail time for pulling a gun on Javaris Crittenton?  Let us know what you think by leaving a comment below.
