Little chance Carmelo Anthony plays for Washington Wizards

The Wizards recently made a call to the Nuggets to check on the availability of Carmelo Anthony, according to a league source. The source added that the same phone call was made by “29 teams. Carmelo is pretty good.”

Yahoo! Sports reported Thursday that following a conversation with Denver management, Anthony made it clear that he wants to be traded.

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: It would be an interesting story –superstar suits up for hometown team. However, Carmelo Anthony, who actually hails from Baltimore, won’t be playing for the Washington Wizards anytime soon. The Wiz’ lacks the assets to facilitate such a trade with the Denver Nuggets.

The Nuggets want a combination of expiring contracts, draft picks, and blue-chip talent. The Wizards aren’t trading first overall pick John Wall, so they can’t meet any of these requirements.

Also, Anthony’s wife, LaLa Vasquez, is a former MTV personality. She’d prefer a larger market to further her entertainment career, meaning the New York Knicks and even Los Angeles Clippers would seem a better fit.

While Anthony playing for Washington would be interesting, it’s unlikely.
