Rumor: Thunder Looking To Trade James Harden

Rumor: Thunder looking to trade James Harden.

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: He might be too expensive now that he’s one of OKC’s Big Three.

The Charlotte Bobcats are reportedly eyeing acquiring James Harden for the No. 2 overall pick. CBSSports reported these developments this week much to the surprise of Thunder fans everywhere. Why on earth would the Thunder consider such an off-season trade when they’re in the middle of the NBA Finals?

Well, for starters they’re down 3-1, so looking to the future isn’t entirely out of the question. Secondly, the interest seems to be more on the Bobcat side of things than Oklahoma. Yet, OKC could be motivated to make a move with Harden this off-season due to money issues. The Thunder GM Sam Presti already has Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook on the books for more than $29 million next season. This could be a problem with Harden and Serge Ibaka capable of commanding huge contracts after the season is over.

These huge contracts may prove too costly to the small market team. If this is the case, Oklahoma may look for cheaper alternatives to getting back to the Finals.
