Oakley Calls Howard a Big Cry Baby

Charles Oakley calls Dwight Howard a big cry baby

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: I’d love to see these to bigs battle for a rebound. My money’s on Oakley.

Basketball purists have got to love Charles Oakley. He is not only a legendary big man that knows how to set an immovable pick, grab a came saving rebound, and level anyone silly enough to drive the heart of the NYC defense, but he speaks his mind. He’s basically a tougher version of Charles Barkley, another one of my favorites.

Oakley weighed in on the whole Dwightmare that took place this off-season and not surprisingly he wasn’t impressed with either Howard or the Magic Management. “A lot of guys cry in this league these days. I try not to get caught up in that. The management in Orlando let him get away with it. Most times, they put kids in timeout. They never put him in timeout. He just kept crying and got his way, “

This must be Oakley the father talking. I love how he sees Howard as a little child that needs to be disciplined and put in his place and not the franchise center that dominates the paint and gives any team a chance at a run into the playoffs. Quite frankly, Oakley is entirely right. Howard played the Magic and they lost. They got just a fraction of his value because they held him one year too many and weren’t able to trade for his true value.

“Now he’s in LA with Kobe (Bryant) so they got a chance to win a couple championships in the next two or three years. They could have traded him and got something better for him last year. I think they just tried to play along. They just pleased him anyway they could but he never did anything to please them.”

It does appear that the league is currently a players league. Management and coaches look like they’re just along for the ride as players dictate terms and trades they want. I for one was really looking forward to Howard playing his last year in Orlando and having to face the music with the Magic fans every home game for all his theatrics. That would have been old-school justice I’m sure Oakley would have approved of.
