David Stern says Obama “not that good” at basketball

NBA Commissioner David Stern has dropped the hammer once again.  Only this time, it was on current United States President, Barack Obama.

Hoopsvibe’s quick call:  Even being the President doesn’t save you from being called out by David Stern.

The always outspoken commissioner of the NBA told Reuters in an interview today that President Barack Obama, avid basketball fan and player, isn’t as good of a baller as he thinks he is.

Check out a preview of the Reuters interview here.

“He’s not that good,” Stern said.  “He’s a left, he goes the same way every time.  I’m sorry.”

This just made me laugh.  Not because I necessarily agree, but because in typical David Stern fashion, the commissioner does not shy away from telling it like it is; even if that means criticizing his own President and arguably the current, most powerful man in the world.

Stern goes on in the interview to say that even though he is “a loyal Democrat, a passionate Democrat,” Obama is “not as good as he thinks he is.”  How Stern-esque is this?  Not only does he rip apart the President for not being that good, but he also bashes him for thinking he’s better than he actually is!

On a side note, I’m pretty sure President Obama would beat Stern in one-on-one any day of the week.  Perhaps a friendly game is in order??

While the President has yet to respond to Stern, the commissioner of the NBA also mentioned in the interview that Obama is well-liked and widely respected by players in the league.

“He relates well to our players.  He’s got a lot of people around him who are b-ball fans.  I think the politics of it is the players appreciate who he is and what he’s accomplished and those that support him support him because of that,” Stern said.

The complete Reuters interview with Commissioner Stern can be seen when it is aired on Monday, October 29th.  In addition to Stern taking time to pick apart the President’s skills, I imagine he will devote some of the interview to discussing his resignation as NBA Commissioner.

Stern announced Thursday that he will step down on February 1st, 2014, exactly 30 years to the day he was hired.  Current Deputy Commissioner, Adam Silver, will be Stern’s successor.

In the meantime, Obama should probably start working on his right hand.

But what do you think, Hoopsvibers?  Is Obama a legit baller?  Leave us your thoughts below!
