=== Boston Celtics Team Report – December 10 ===

(Sports Network) – The Boston Celtics lost their third straight game on
Thursday, as they were defeated by the Portland Trail Blazers, 89-87, at the
Rose Garden.

Paul Pierce, who was battling the flu, ended with a season-low six points for
Boston, which has dropped three straight games to start its five-game road
trip. Gary Payton and Mark Blount each finished with 14 points for the
Celtics, who are just 2-7 on the road this season.

With Portland leading 80-79 after a Sebastian Telfair basket with 5:49
remaining, Boston answered with six straight points to take the lead. Jiri
Welsh’s basket gave Boston a 81-79 edge and Gary Payton accounted for the
remaining four points to build the five-point advantage with 3:28 remaining.

Both teams struggled from the field after that. Portland drew with 85-84 with
58.4 left following a Derek Anderson jumper and a pair of Zach Randolph free

Ricky Davis hit a mid-range jumper with 34 seconds left on the game clock and
two on the shot clock for a three-point Boston cushion.

However, coming out of a time out, Randolph gathered an Anderson miss and was
fouled. He hit both from the stripe with 29 seconds left to again make it a
one-point contest.

Portland then held the Celtics to a shot clock violation and advanced the ball
up court to Anderson, who dribbled through the lane and found Shareef Abdur-
Rahim at the left side of the arc for the game-winner as time expired.

Payton has averaged 13 points and eight assists in his last two games.

The Celtics are off until Saturday when they visit All-Star Ray Allen and the
Seattle SuperSonics at KeyArena. It will be the second and final meeting of
the season between the two clubs. On November 21st, Boston crushed the Sonics,
102-83, at the FleetCenter.
