(Sports Network) – The Nets recorded a narrow 92-90 victory over the
Cleveland Cavaliers at Continental Airlines Arena on Wednesday evening.
Richard Jefferson capped a career-high 42-point performance with an alley-oop
basket with less than a second remaining to lift New Jersey to the victory.
Rodney Buford finished with a career-high 22 points, seven boards and four
assists for the Nets, who have won two straight. Jefferson added seven assists
and six rebounds.
Jason Collins notched 10 points for New Jersey, which led 90-87 with 1:20 to
go in the fourth quarter after four straight points by Jefferson.
But James forced a 90-90 tie with 46.3 seconds to go with a dunk and a foul
James then missed a shot with 1.5 seconds left before New Jersey clinched the
win. Jabari Smith inbounded the ball to Jefferson, who was in the lane and
dropped the ball through the net.
New Jersey’s Brian Scalabrine left in the second quarter with a strained
hamstring. It is unknown when Scalabrine will return to the court.
The Nets have a nice four-day break for Christmas before beginning a two-game
road trip in Detroit on Monday. Recently acquired Vince Carter is expected to
debut in that contest.
