Unlike Nelly and Usher, Jay-Z passionate NBA owner
t only does Jigga have more Grammy Awards than any NBA owner, he’s also more involved than these “so-called” celebrity minority owners, according to Nets GM Billy King.
“I think a lot of those so-called guys that have parts of teams, they vanish,” King said. “There was one in Cleveland, what was his name? Usher. They haven’t seen him. I think Nelly in (Charlotte) – haven’t seen him. But Jay-Z, I think players see that it’s more of a passion for him, not just something he’s involved in.”
HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: He’s better than Nelly and Usher. We’re talking minority owners, not music.
Word is Jay-Z, who has a small stake in the New Jersey Nets, is the top celebrity owner in the NBA. Unlike Nelly, who is linked to the Charlotte Bobcats, and Usher, who has a percentage in the Cleveland Cavaliers, Jay-Z is actively involved.
This is hardly a surprise. Jay-Z is comfortable in both the boardroom and studio.
Remember, he was a key cog for Rocafella Records and clothes, and was once the head suit for legendary music label Def Jam Records. Over time, he has amassed a personal fortune of close to $400 million.
And Jay-Z is serious about his Nets. He’s involved in recruiting free agents, the new Brooklyn stadium, and all other aspects of the team. He does far more than show-up and sit courtside.
Expect Jay-Z to be a part of the turnaround with New Jersey.

Jay-Z to have ’99 problems’ with Commissioner Stern?

The Russian carries the New Jersey Nets out of last place with the money.
New Jersey didn’t have much to cheer about in 2009-2010. The team is relocating to Brooklyn while performing as dog feces around the league. 12 wins. That’s right. 12 wins. Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov swooped in to be their savior complete with bad accents from people emulating him across message boards. They tried to get LeBron James, but Jigga Man and the Russian were not enough. Picture John Malkovich as Teddy KGB in the film, “Rounders,” imitating Prokhorov. You get the picture.

Jay-Z mad at LeBron James?
"Jay never expected LeBron to sign with the Nets. He knew that no 25-year-old kid with James' profile was going to spend years in Newark," the source tells Gatecrasher. "But he's ... at least disappointed, that LeBron didn't consult with him." Still, our source says, "I don't think it's going to affect their friendship."
HoopsVibe's Very Quick Call: The trail of jilted suitors grows.
Apparently, the 'Greatest Rapper of All Time' and 'The King' are at odds because New Jersey Nets minority owner Jay-Z felt friend LeBron James should have talked with him during free agency.
Jay-Z wasn't expecting to sign James, but did expect a phone call.
Of course, Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert and the state of Ohio didn't receive this courtesy, so why would Jay-Z?
Unlike Gilbert, Jay-Z isn't expected to release a scathing letter via the Nets' website. Would he, however, take a subtle dig or two at James on his next single?
Probably not, but getting Jay-Z's official side of the story would be interesting.

Who has the better plan: Knicks’ 3 Star Plan, Nets’ Blueprint, Miami’s Super Team, or Chicago’s Business?
The sales pitch has got to be one of the toughest things to put together for any marketing team. It is one of those things that science alone cannot help them. The only way science can help is in producing the right numbers – the sweet science of money. There’s another science as well and that is the science of reproduction. Sex parties are the cure, but then again who wants herpes? That doesn’t cope well with these big name free agents doing public appearances. Even Delonte West gets clowned on and supposedly it’s just a birth mark.
